WASCC Championship: Round 5 & HQ Nationals

Round 5 of the WASCC Championship brings the prestigious HQ Nationals to MotorMall Wanneroo Raceway in Neerabup for a massive weekend of circuit racing. As the national title is on the line, the best HQ Holden drivers from across the country are heading to Perth to join the local stars. Fans can expect the close, door-to-door action these classic sedans are famous for, with every driver fighting for a spot in the history books. Saturday’s schedule features a huge variety of machinery including Historic Touring Cars, Holden HQ, Formula Ford, Production Cars, Improved Production Cars, Street Cars, Sports Cars, Sports Sedans, Muscle Cars, and Formula Classic. On Sunday, the variety continues with the Excel Cup, Saloon Cars, FSR, and the Time Challenge joining the HQ and Historic fields. Wanneroo Raceway offers excellent vantage points for spectators to watch the field navigate the layout. Spectator entry is just $10 per car per day, making it an affordable way to get close to the action, while WA Sporting Car Club members enjoy free entry.

Wanneroo Raceway, currently known as MotorMall Wanneroo Raceway for sponsorship, is the cornerstone of motorsport in Western Australia. Located in Neerabup, roughly 40 minutes north of Perth, this undulating circuit has been the home of the West Australian Sporting Car Club since it opened in 1969. Originally dubbed Wanneroo Park, it was established to replace the beloved Caversham airfield track and has since grown into an FIA Grade 3 facility capable of hosting world-class racing. The circuit is most famous for its short but technical layout, spanning 2.41 kilometres with significant elevation changes that keep even the most seasoned drivers on their toes. The drop into 'The Basin' and the steep climb through the final turn toward the start-finish line are iconic features of the track. It remains the only permanent road racing facility in the state, making it a critical hub for local racing categories, motorcycle state championships, and high-energy drifting events. Historically, the venue reached a pinnacle in 1979 when it hosted the Australian Grand Prix, but it is perhaps best known to modern fans as the permanent home of the Supercars Championship in Western Australia. The annual Perth SuperSprint draws massive crowds to the natural limestone hills surrounding the track, creating a stadium-like atmosphere. Whether it is the roar of V8 engines or the scream of superbikes, the raceway continues to be a vital part of Australia's motorsport landscape.

To reach Wanneroo Raceway from the Perth CBD, travel north on the Mitchell Freeway and exit at Neerabup Road. Follow Neerabup Road eastbound and turn left onto Old Yanchep Road, then follow the signs to turn left into Wattle Avenue East. Alternatively, drivers can take Wanneroo Road north and turn right into Joondalup Drive before following the signposts to the circuit. There is ample unsealed parking available on-site for general admission spectators, while premium parking is often available during major events like the Supercars. Please note that public transport options to the circuit are very limited on non-event days, so driving is the recommended way to access the venue. During high-capacity events, special shuttle buses may be organised from nearby train stations.
